Phuket Governor warns of heavy rains and possible flooding

Following the heavy rain, Phuket’s Governor, Norrapat Plodthong, is expressing his concerns yesterday about more flash flooding.

“According to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) Office of the Southern West Coast, from yesterday (June 16) until Wednesday (June 20). There is a Southwest monsoon that is affecting the Andaman Sea as well as the whole west coast of southern Thailand.”

“The torrential rains with isolated heavy downpours are expected in Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Ranong, Trang and Satun. People should beware of the accumulated rainfall that could possibly cause flash floods.”

“Tour boats should be very careful as the Andaman Sea have seas could be up to 2-3 metres high together with high winds and rain. Small boats in the Andaman region should stay ashore over the next few days.”

“Local administrations offices are prepared with manpower and rescue equipment 24/7, especially in the risky areas that commonly suffer from floods and landslides. Everybody should keep tuned to the weather forecast updates closely.”
