The tide is low but it has been lower in the past
It’s been drier in the past. Bang Wad dam May 2015
Bang Wad dam is low for this time of the year but Richard Rognard reminds us with photos from May 2015, the driest the dam has ever been. Of course this was immediately following a very dry ‘dry season’ when there was almost no rain for over four months.
In this year’s case, the dam is low at a time of the year it should be filling up fast – September and October are the wettest months of the year (see graph) – and this follows one of the wettest dry season between December and April this year.
We are assured by the head of the Phuket Water Authority that ‘everything is OK’ and part of the problem relates to three broken pumps.
Time to do your favourite rain dance and urge some decent falls in the next few months before we reach our next dry season spell.
Thanks to Richard for the archival photos.
