Phuket’s Governor urges care over Songkran

Phuket’s Governor, Norapat Plodthong, is urging special attention to road safety during the peak period of Songkran from today, April 11 – April 17 during his regular morning meeting.

He is ordering the departments involved to install lights at road curves and known risky spots. Also, he is emphasising to officials working at checkpoints to enforce the law strictly and consistently. He mentioned that the group of people create fake checkpoint to threaten drivers for money will be strictly prosecuted.

There will be 15 road accident prevention and reduction centres and another 15 sub-checkpoints with another 20 service points covering the 3 districts of Phuket. For marine safety, there will be an administrative centre at Chalong Pier to monitor the marine safety 24/7 with a new patrol boat.

In case of emergency, people can contact 1669. The Royal Thai Navy Area 3 will also provide a helicopter for emergency situations.
