Women on top: Triathalon Champ talks about empowering women
PHUKET: “If I miss my morning training, I have no energy throughout the day,” says Belinda Granger, 15 times Iron Distance Triathlon Champion.
“But you don’t have to compete in Triathlons. Just notice something that keeps you energetic and lively and keep adding more of that element into your life,” she adds.
The 10 women who attended the “Empowering Women Workshop” in The View Boardroom at Thanyapura, listened carefully, while sipping uber-healthy (and delicious!) beetroot smoothies and green tea. The muffins and croissants resting on a nearby table attracted barely anybody – you won’t find many carbohydrate-junkies here. These ladies find their power somewhere else.
The workshop focused on the reasons why it’s good and why sometimes, not so good, to be a woman. There was talk of women’s equality in sports, motivation, social pressure and more. All highly inspirational, especially coming form the mouth of a triathlon champion who at the age of 43 has more energy than many 20-year-olds.
So go out – move, run, cycle or swim. It might be that you’ll just loose some weight and get healthier. But who knows – soon enough you might be running towards the finish line of a Triathlon. After all – women have the power!
