Video Report: PGTV wins “Best Local TV – News’ at Phuket Reporters Club Awards
PHUKET: The Phuket Gazette‘s own PGTV won the “Best Local TV – News” award last night at the first ever Phuket Reporters Awards ceremony, held at the Royal Phuket City Hotel.
PGTV won for a segment on the ‘Phuket Today’ show called ‘The Rubber Tapper’s Lament’, in which Karl Vandenhole investigates the plight of Krabi rubber cropper Sangwien.
In his acceptance speech, ‘Phuket Today’ producer Simon J Hand said, “It only takes one person to make a difference, but it takes a team to make a great TV show.”
The event, chaired by Vice Governor Somkiet Sangkaosutthirak and coinciding with National Mass Communication Day, saw a diverse group of well-dressed attendees, which included members of the island’s media as well as Phuket officials and other distinguished guests.
Boonrat Apiwanthanakorn, president of the Phuket Reporters Club, expressed his deep gratitude for the coordination of Phuket’s media groups.
“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank everyone for joining us last night. I am very thankful that we were able to hold such an event,” he told the Gazette today.
“People rely on us. We must keep up the good work, and continue to report truthful and timely stories to keep Phuket moving forward.”

‘Best Crime Photo’ went to Chaichana Keowkaow from Thairath
‘Best Environment Photo’ went to Thanyaluck Sakoot from The Phuket News
‘Best Local TV Show’ went to the “At Andaman Show”, broadcast on National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT)
‘Most Popular DJ’ went to “DJ Or-Ae” Pijika Tharaporn from FM89.75
‘Reporter of the Year’ went to Prasert Fuangfoo from ASTV Manager
