Phuket’s first Aussie Rules match kicks off tomorrow

PHUKET: Australian Rules football is due to make its long-awaited appearance on Phuket tomorrow, as the Thailand Tigers take on the Malaysian Warriors at the Alan Cooke Ground.

The action will begin at 11:30am, with a junior Auskick clinic to introduce children between 5 and 14 years old to the game – all are welcome to attend, regardless of experience. The clinic will cover the basic skills of the game, and will be followed by a mini match.

The senior game will start at 1:00pm, with both teams keen to begin their international seasons on a strong note. The Tigers have been training well, and are looking to build momentum for their Anzac Day tribute match in Kanchanaburi, while the Warriors are out for revenge after their loss to the Tigers at the Asian Championships last year, and will have the help of ex-AFL players.

Admission is free. Merchandise, food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will all be available at the ground.

The match promises to provide a great day out for all involved and a small piece of history for Australian football in Asia, so wear your yellow and black and be ready to watch a stellar game.
