Tracking down a transport solution

PHUKET TOWN: Serious consideration is being given to an electric tram service around Phuket, Dr Prasit Koeysiripong, President of the Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) announced today. He said a group at Prince of Songkla University was researching the feasibility of introducing trams. “The next thing to do is to find a route for the service and to check whether land is available for construction,” he said. “If not, we then have to decide what we should do to complete the plan.” He said there was a five-year plan for a tram service in Phuket Town, and a 10-year plan for a public transit system around the island, he said. “The research will look at both plans and overlap them in order to save on budgets,” Dr Prasit added.
