Superyachts return for Phuket Rendezvous

PHUKET: The annual Asia Superyacht Rendezvous, the exclusive international event for both motor and sailing superyachts, returns to Phuket on December 16-18.

The annual event, one of the largest gathering of superyachts in Asia, welcomes sail and motor yachts over 100-feet long to the festivities taking place over three days on and off the waters of the Phuket and the Andaman Coast.

Confirmed to join this year’s Rendezvous are the sailing yacht Asia and motor yachts Onyx, Aveline and Maverick II.

Launched in 2009, the cutter rig sloop Asia is no stranger to Phuket waters. The luxury yacht, with accommodation for up to 10 guests in five en-suite staterooms, is available for charter in the Mergui Archipelago, the Andaman Islands, Thailand and Malaysia from November through April.

Also making a welcome return this year is Maverick II. Built by Nishii Zosen Kk/Sterling Yachts, Japan, in 1988 and refitted in 2007 and 2010, this luxury 42-meter (138-foot) motor yacht can accommodate six guests and seven crew.

Powered by twin diesel engines, each with 1,750 horsepower, Maverick II boasts a top continuous speed of 15 knots.

Maverick II is also available for charter, but as it offers a range of 4,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots, the only question is: Where do you want go? At least, come next month, you’ll know where to find her.

Rounding out the list of confirmed entries are the Aveline and the 39m visiting yacht Onyx. Built in 2008 by Sanlorenzo of Cantieri Navali Di Viareggio, Italy, the Onyx‘s twin engines develop a combined 5,550 horsepower, allowing the twin-screw propellers to push her through the waves at speeds of up to 27 knots.

Scuttlebutt in superyacht circles is that the Onyx may be for sale in the not too distant future.

Also taking part will be Phuket-based luxury yachts Andara and Celebrity.

“Andara Resort & Villas Phuket has customized two private motor yachts – the 28m Andara and the 35m Celebrity – to explore the coastline and visit nearby islands in absolute luxury,” said Nina Larsson, Public Relations and Event Manager for the Rendezvous.

“Finished to match the Andara standard, the yachts offer the same level of comfort and service while floating on the crystal clear Andaman Sea. Andara will be the hosting yacht for the opening cocktail party on December 16,” she added.
