Strategic cluster’ plan for three provinces
PHUKET TOWN : Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi represent a strategic “cluster” for economic development and water-related tourism, a conference heard today. Phuket Vice-Governor Winai Buapradit told representatives from business, government and academic groups, and other interested parties that more planning was needed to make the most of the “cluster.” About 150 people gathered at the Royal Phuket City Hotel where V/Gov Winai extolled the virtues of the three provinces, which he said were world-class for diving, yachting and watersports of all kinds. Protecting and conserving the region’s natural beauty was a priority, K Winai said. As well as tourism, a strategic plan was needed for overall economic development, he added. He said Phuket, with its history and culture, could develop as a center for IT businesses and health tourism, as a “shopping paradise” and as a tourism hub as well, without risking damage to the natural attractions of Phang Nga and Krabi. “The completed plan will be presented to Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who is responsible for the committee developing the strategic plan,” he added.
