Somtam Express extends lead in Phuket Raceweek | Thaiger

AO CHALONG: Scott Duncanson’s Somtam Express today secured yet another win to stretch their lead to five points in the IRC 1 class of the fourth annual Phuket Raceweek regatta being raced in and around Chalong Bay and the surrounding islands.

Peter Ahern’s Yo! 2 finished three minutes behind Somtam Express on corrected time to hold onto second place overall with 12 points.

Jim Poulsen’s Vino is third overall on 14 points.

Despite finishing third today, David Lindahl’s La Samudra is fifth in the overall standings in the class, behind John Vause’s Ruby Tuesday.

The two races in the IRC 2 class today provided plenty of surprises with Peter Dyer’s Madam Butterfly scoring a win and a second place to move into first place overall, one point ahead of Niels Dgenkolf on Phoenix, who finished with first and third places today to claim second place overall with 12 points.

Mike Downard and his crew on Tua Lek is third overall in IRC 2 with 13 points.

Tim Milner’s Seekronghuk holds onto first place overall in the Multihull class by three points despite finishing second to Bob Brindley’s X Cat Riot today. X Cat Riot, with eight points, leads Chameleon, skippered by Chris Runnegar, by three points.

Although finishing fourth today in the Raimon Land Firefly 850 class, Roger Kingdon’s Moto Inzi has a comfortable four-point lead going into the final race tomorrow. Bill Phelp’s Twin Sharks is second overall in the class on 12 points.

Henry Kaye on Mamba remains in third place overall with 15 points despite crossing the finish line first in the class today.

Gunther Nutt’s Kerida holds onto first place overall after a win in the Classic class today. Tom Howard’s Seraph is in second place overall followed by Mark Myking’s Idiom.

The regatta will draw to a close tomorrow with an awards-presentation ceremony and post-regatta party at The Evason Phuket Resort & Six Senses Spa, which has been host to the regatta.
