Phuket schools closed due to coup

PHUKET: All schools, public and private, in Phuket and nationwide are closed starting tomorrow, Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha announced tonight.

The schools are set to re-open on May 26.

Gen Prayuth also announced four groups of people who are exempt from the curfew, which prohibits people from being outside their residence or hotel between 10pm and 5am (story here).

The groups were named as: anyone departing or arriving in Thailand; shift workers, such as those working in factories and hospitals, as well as flight crews; anyone transporting perishables such frozen products, dealing in the import or export of products with a short shelf life or products that can be damaged due to delays; and people in emergency situations, such as patients and emergency response professionals.

Anyone else must get permission from government officers.

The night curfew will remain in place until further notice, said Gen Prayuth.
