Phuket buses hailed a success
PHUKET TOWN: The revamped Phuket bus service is a success, Samroeng Chaisorn, Vice-President of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor), said today. Speaking at a press conference at the OrBorJor offices at Phuket Provincial Hall, K. Samroeng said, “Under the old system, the bus service cost the OrBorJor 1.7 million baht in rent and operating costs a month, but in August alone Andaman Trans operated the buses at a cost of 980,000 baht.” Andaman Trans (Thailand) Ltd Co started operating the 16 air-conditioned buses from August 1 on a two-month concession. The 16 buses, which service Phuket Town and vicinity, replaced 12 larger ones that were leased by the OrBorJor. K. Samroeng said that once a longer-term concession to run the buses is given at the end of September, he expected the monthly costs to be offset by 200,000 baht from advertising revenues.
