Phuket Poll: How good is Phuket Airport?
PHUKET: First impressions are critical in how people remember their holidays, and officials at Phuket International Airport are hoping that 12 million travellers judge their facility favorably this year.
The sole runway and the main terminal cater to about 210 flights and 32,000 passengers per day.
The main terminal can support up to 2,400 passengers per hour, but rush periods of up to 3,000 travellers has prompted a 5.8-billion-baht upgrade that is scheduled for completion by May next year (story here).
As part of the expansion project – and after a successful trial period serving outbound Chinese and Russian charter flights – the “X-Terminal” officially opened last month. The new building, complete with free WiFi, can support 1,000 passengers per hour (story here).
Another major project underway is a new international terminal, boasting its own immigration and customs clearance counters.
While the construction at Phuket Airport continues, other airports in the region are receiving accolades for being more impressive, better designed and more efficient in facilitating arrivals and departures.
To this, the Phuket Gazette asks readers in our latest online poll: “How would you rate Phuket Airport overall compared with other airports in Asia?”
