Phuet Youth Sailing Club’s sailors selected for Youth Games
PHUKET: Six Phuket Youth Sailing Club (PYSC) members have been selected to represent Phuket at the National Sports Festival in Khon Kaen during November 2011 and the National Youth Games to be held in Phuket during March 2012.
The six sailors are, Mak Sarawat (Laser Standard Class), Akapoj Kankaew and Sukanya Saiman (Super Mod Class), Teerapong Tohkratoak, Tanaporn Budgrim and Nattapong Yuang-ngam (Optimist Class).
In preparation for these events, the PYSC based at Ao Yon, will be running an intensive 10-day advanced sailing training course which will be led by a top Thai national coach from the Royal Thai Navy.
Alongside the advanced course, the club is also be running a beginners course during the Thai school holidays which end tomorrow.
Mr Thammasak, from the Royal Thai Navy in Sattahip will be leading the beginners course while PYSC will provide all the logistics, including safety boats and volunteers to administer and assist with the program.
However, the club urgently needs to raise 65,000 baht, approximately the amount needed to hold the event, and are requesting financial support.
PYSC has come a long way in one year and is now a member of the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand (YRAT) and officially recognized by the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and the Phuket Sports Association.
Individuals are invited to join the club’s Group of Friends for 500 baht per year which helps the club provide essential team equipment and supplies.
With enough support, the course will be able to go ahead and provide a valuable experience and qualification for these young sailors.
The Phuket Gazette and PGTV sponsor the Phuket Youth Sailing Club and its activities.
