PRBC seeks blood donations for monsoon season

PHUKET: The Phuket Regional Blood Center (PRBC) is calling for all qualified island residents to donate blood as the monsoon season – and the dangerous road conditions that come with it – rolls in.

PRBC Chief Pornthip Rattajak said the month-long blood drive is being held to replenish blood supplies for the southwest monsoon season and in acknowledgment of World Red Cross Day on May 8.

“Currently we have 500 units of blood on hand,” Ms Pornthip said. “However, we would like to have as much as possible for the upcoming rainy season, as we are likely to have more accidents occur during that time.”

She said the blood type most needed is Rhesus-negative (see Special Report here).

“We would like to invite all students to participate, as they are generally the largest population of blood donors,” Ms Pornthip added.
