Man arrested for British tourist’s murder

BANGKOK (AFP): A 31-year-old man has been arrested in Bangkok on suspicion of murdering a British tourist and seriously wounding his travelling companion, police said today. Saichon Lomgun was arrested late on Thursday in a hotel in downtown Bangkok and charged with premeditated murder and carrying an unlicensed gun. “The suspect has cooperated with police and we expect to conclude our investigations next week after receiving results from scientific testing of the bullets,” said Pol Lt Col Chatchawan Phisutthiwong. Police claim Saichon shot dead Terence Morley, 31, and seriously wounded Dean Brendan Sherrin, both from Romford in Essex, when the two tourists tried to defuse a row in a bar in Pattaya. Saichon was taken to Pattaya today to re-enact Tuesday’s shooting, which allegedly took place when he was arguing with the bar owner over a loan. Chatchawan said Sherrin was recovering in hospital and had provided police with useful information.
