Kratom package seized at Phuket Town Post Office
PHUKET: Phuket Marine police seized a 5-kilogram package of kratom leaves at the Phuket Town Post Office this afternoon.
“After receiving a tip-off about the delivery from our source, we arrived at the post office at 9am,” Phuket Marine Police Chief Panya Chaichana told Phuket Gazette. “However, when no one showed up by 3pm to claim the package, we seized it.”
Though police have the name of a sender and receiver, they are unable to make an arrest as no one was caught in the act of sending or receiving the package.
“The package was sent by Phiya Co Ltd to a Prapasorn Kuenkaew, but there is no way of knowing if these names are falsely used, as many people sign for the package without showing identification,” Col Panya said.
The kratom was taken to the Phuket City Police Station.
Earlier this year, Director of the Narcotics Control Board Sithisak Kallyanapradit told the Gazette that enormous quantities of drugs were being shipped to Phuket through the Thai Postal system as island dealers buy in bulk through online social media platforms (story here).
