Korean visitor hospitalized after fall

PHUKET TOWN: A 42 year-old South Korean visitor, Kang Ki Hswan, is in hospital with serious head injuries after falling from a second-floor terrace at the Pearl Hotel yesterday morning. It is understood that Mr Hswan came to Phuket on Wednesday after being invited to the opening ceremony of the new Pearl Bowl bowling alley, held yesterday afternoon. Pol Maj Pitsanu Poonwong of Phuket Town police station said the accident took place at around 6.30 yesterday morning. “The staff of the hotel told me that he was drinking the whole night on the terrace on the second floor, but I don’t know what happened, or what caused him to fall. I am waiting for his friend to come and tell me what happened.” After the fall, Mr Hswan was collected by the Kusonlatham Foundation and rushed to Wachira Phuket Hospital. There, Dr Nirun Taweekun told the Gazette, “His head hit the ground and his skull is broken. He had trouble breathing and we had to put him on oxygen. I will operate this afternoon; then we will have to wait three to five days before we are sure he is safe. “There is still some hemorrhaging in his brain, but things have improved since yesterday. He will probably be in hospital for at least three weeks.”
