Job seekers undeterred by downpours

PHUKET CITY: Heavy rain today failed to stop job hunters from attending the first day of the Phuket Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) mass job fair at the Rajabhat Institute Phuket. More than 3,800 positions are up for grabs at the two-day fair, with 143 employers taking part, including 14 hotels. Most of the positions on offer are for sales, office and administrative staff. Employers at the fair come mainly from the property, decor, tourism, construction, jewelry, insurance and clothing industries in Phuket and other provinces. The employer with the most jobs on offer is the Makro wholesale store, currently under construction, which is looking to hire 475 people. Central Phuket Festival, which will open in August has 250 job vacancies. Many employers taking part, including Makro and Central, are holding interviews at the fair and even hiring on the spot. PESO Chief Sayan Chuaiyjan told the Gazette, “I think about 500 positions have been filled already.” He added that Phuket’s registered unemployed number about 2,000, but that many other job-seekers from outside Phuket have traveled to the fair in hope of finding work. The fair will be open again tomorrow from 9 am-3 pm. For more information call the PESO at Tel: 076-219660-1 ext 13 or 14.
