It’s official: the rainy season’s here

PHUKET: The Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast) today issued an advisory suggesting that hotels and the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Phuket office inform tourists (in case they hadn’t noticed) that it is now the rainy season.
Heavy showers in the 24 hours to 7 am today dumped 67.7 mm of rain on the island.
Vichit Phuangsombat, Director of the center, told the Gazette, “Phuket is now in the rainy season. There will be rain until the end of this month. There will also be some rain in November, though not much.”
He added, “There is no monsoon wind [at present], but we would like to warn people not to go diving or swimming.”
He also advised local authorities to ensure that all drains are cleared in order to avert flooding.
