Guard drowns after fall into sea
AO MAKHAM: A security guard at the Phuket Deep Sea Port drowned on Saturday after falling about seven meters into the sea. Pol Maj Adul Niraphai of Phuket Town Police Station named the dead man as Amnuan Kamnuan, 35, from Trang. He said, “Staff at the port told me that the guard fell into the sea at 10 am. His workmates told me that he had a bad cold but that he continued the heavy work of throwing mooring lines to boats bound for the Phi Phi islands. “As he threw one of the ropes, it appears he felt dizzy. He fell from a height of about seven meters, hitting the water back-first,” Maj Adul added. “His friends said that he tried to come up twice, but when they jumped in to help he had already drowned,” he said. “We believe Amnuan, who worked for Group 4 Securitas, drowned due to a combination of his illness, his inability to swim, the height of the fall, and the fact that he was wearing heavy combat boots,” said Maj Adul. The police called for Kusonlatham Foundation divers who took about 15 minutes to find the victim’s body lying on the seabed roughly 20 meters offshore.
