Death truck driver’s confession halves 12-year jail sentence

RANONG: The driver of the truck in which 54 illegal Burmese immigrants suffocated while they were being transported from Ranong to Phuket on April 9 has been sentenced to a six-year jail term by Ranong Criminal Court.

Phuket Police Commander Maj Gen Apirak Hongthong told the Gazette that the driver’s jail sentence was reduced from 12 to six years because he had confessed to his involvement in trafficking the illegal immigrants.
