Date set for car numbers auction

PHUKET TOWN: Phuket’s first auction of special vehicle registration numbers is due to take place on November 27-28 at the Royal Phuket City Hotel. Bidding will start at 10 am. Teerayuth Prasertphol, Deputy Chief of the Phuket Provincial Transportation Office (PPTO) told the Gazette that refundable deposits must be lodged by bidders. “The size of the deposit depends on the number you want to bid for,” he explained. “For four-of-a-kind numbers we need a deposit of 5,000 baht but for double pairs, such as 1122, the deposit is only 500 baht. Just bring your ID card [or, in the case of foreigners, passport] and your deposit.” Interested parties may register and pay a deposit on the day but are advised to call the PPTO first to see if their favorite number is available. K. Teerayuth said that deposits would be returned to anyone who was outbid in the auction. This is the first car registration number auction to be held outside Bangkok. Funds raised will go to the Road Safety Fund. For more information on numbers likely to be put up for auction, see https://thethaiger.com/news/index.asp?Id=3087 or call the PPTO at Tel: 076-214930 during government office hours.
