Burmese fisherman murdered by gang
PHUKET TOWN: A Burmese fisherman was stabbed to death in the early hours of Thursday morning in a boat at the entrance to the fishing port on Soi Si Sena, near Phya Thai Hospital. He was the third person murdered in the fishing port in the past week. Pol Lt Passakorn Sonthikul of Phuket Town Police Station told the Gazette that the man, whom he named as Yong, aged 20, was stabbed five times in the stomach, possibly with a sharpened steel reinforcing bar. Thai fishermen said that Yong worked aboard the S. Somwang 2, where his body was found. Witnesses told police that about one hour before the body was discovered, they had seen Yong being chased by a group of more than 10 people. He had run to his boat where he had been cornered by the gang, they said.
