Body of Australian tourist found in Phuket hotel room

PHUKET: The body of an Australian male was found in a Phuket hotel room earlier today. The death appears to be a suicide.

The body of the 39 year old was discovered at Horizon Karon Beach Resort & Spa by one of the hotel’s cleaning staff on regular housekeeping duty just after midday.

The body was lying in a pool of blood just inside the room. There was a dressing gown cord wrapped around the body’s neck. The other end of the cord was tied to one of the door’s hinges.

Upon searching the room and the body, police found 1,000 euro and a set of golf clubs. Police said there were no other immediate signs of external injury to the body, which has been taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy.

The man had checked into the hotel on October 16 and was due to leave this Saturday.
