Phuket officials get behind the ‘Run 2Gether’ in Phuket Town

Early this morning (October 1), Phuket Governor, Norapat Plodthong, hosted the “Run 2Gether Phuket Town” event, the first ever running event that gathered 1,000 runners and disabled people to join the activity together.

The Governor also joined the run, leading the way for participants in the event which started in front of Limelight Avenue mall.

“I’m very glad that many sectors of government and business in Phuket see the value of the activity which helps support our disabled people. This activity is a good sign to help promote sports and activities for disabled persons.

Meanwhile, the President of the Phuket Disability People Association, Udom Pinyo, also appreciated the running event.

“The run allows us to take part, side by side, with ‘abled’ running participants (or running guides as we call them) all the way to the finish line – 3.3 kilometres of running and walking – to encourage disabled people to exercise,” he said.

“The activity also helps promote the new footpaths constructed by the Phuket Municipality that are designed to be convenient for disabled people.”

“It helps create a better understanding between disabled people and other people in our community and encourage people to learn about sign language.”
