Insufficient street lighting blamed for motorcycle crash in Pattaya
Pattaya witnessed a motorcycle crash in the early hours of yesterday that left two people injured on Soi 11. The driver of one of the motorcycles, a 21 year old man named Korakot, reported that insufficient street lighting in the area was to blame for the accident.
The incident occurred at approximately 1am on November 19 and was promptly reported to the local police station in Pattaya. Emergency responders were dispatched to the site of the accident swiftly after the notification.
On arrival at the scene, the responders discovered a Honda Zoomer-X motorcycle lying overturned in the middle of the road. Nearby, they found its driver, a 24 year old woman named Supaporn, sprawled on the ground, suffering from moderate injuries and experiencing severe pain in her left leg.
Supaporn received immediate first aid from the emergency personnel, which included the application of leg splints, before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Also involved in the accident was Korakot, who was found at the scene with minor injuries and damage to the front of his Honda PCX motorcycle. Korakot was able to recount the events leading up to the accident to both the authorities and The Pattaya News.
He explained that he had been proceeding straight towards the Pattaya Klang intersection when the accident occurred. He claimed that the area was shrouded in darkness due to insufficient street lighting, which made it difficult for him to spot Supaporn as she emerged from Soi Chaloem Phra Kiat 11, leading to the unfortunate crash.
“Visibility was poor due to the lack of adequate street lighting, which made it hard for me to see Supaporn in time to avoid the collision,” Korakot said.
Korakot further urged the relevant authorities to address the issue of inadequate lighting on that stretch of road. He suggested that more lights should be installed or existing malfunctioning ones fixed to help prevent similar accidents in the future, reported Pattaya News.
This incident puts a spotlight on the importance of adequate road lighting in ensuring the safety of road users, particularly during the night when visibility is naturally reduced.
It serves as a call to action for authorities to ensure that all roads, especially those heavily used, are sufficiently lit to prevent such accidents from recurring.
