A male nurse who faked his qualifications has managed to get away with working in the emergency department of a hospital in Loei province, Isaan, for 11 years.

The Sanook News team reports that the “nurse”, known as Kowit, was employed at the Pak Chom hospital, having used a fake graduation certificate and nursing licence from Khon Kaen university. It has since been revealed that the university’s graduate database has no record of him.

It’s understood that Kowit hasn’t been seen at work since the news of his deception broke, and hospital director Sakpetch Hobsombat says he has no comment to make at this time.

The fraud was revealed thanks to licence checks carried out by the Loei Provincial Public Health Officer earlier this year, when Kowit aroused suspicion by refusing to submit his licence for inspection.

When he finally did so, it was discovered to be a fake, further confirmed by checking Khon Kaen university records.

It’s understood that Kowit has admitted to faking his qualifications and will be prosecuted for forgery, although it’s up to the university and council on whether they wish to take the matter further.
