Bus-tling arrival: Baby born on board Khon Kaen-Phuket route
A woman travelling from Khon Kaen to Phuket on a bus unexpectedly gave birth while on board, assisted by a nurse who happened to be a fellow passenger. This marks her fourth child, and she was unaware of her pregnancy.
The incident occurred today, September 9 at 8am, when Wiroj Srisang, Mayor of Simamokhon subdistrict, Klangdong, Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, reported that a woman gave birth on a bus owned by Sombat Tour Co., Ltd. The bus was travelling from Khon Kaen to Phuket.
Wiroj mentioned that the Simamokhon subdistrict rescue centre was alerted by the Pak Chong Nana Hospital radio centre about the woman in labour on the air-conditioned bus near a shopping mall on the inbound route to Bangkok in Klangdong. Consequently, the Simamokhon subdistrict rescue team and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the rescue team met the bus driver, Chanchai Yingnok, who confirmed that a passenger had gone into labour and given birth on the bus. The rescue team found 31 year old Yaowalak, from Khon Kaen province, lying on the floor near the bathroom at the back of the bus. Nurses Sata Pornwilaiwan and Sasithorn Nakornphat from Chumphon Hospital were already assisting her.
Yaowalak, a mother of four, shared that she did not know she was pregnant with her fourth child and had not received any prenatal care. She was travelling from Khon Kaen to Phuket for work when she felt the need to urinate and headed to the bathroom at the back of the bus.
Upon reaching the bathroom, she experienced severe abdominal pain and realised she was in labour. Fortunately, the nurses on board helped her deliver the baby, a healthy and adorable girl.
In medical care
The rescue team from Pak Chong Nana Hospital, along with medical staff, arrived later to take Yaowalak and her newborn to the hospital for further care and recovery. They were transported to Pak Chong Nana Hospital to ensure both mother and child were in good health before being discharged.
Chanchai, the bus driver, stated that the bus departed from Khon Kaen’s air-conditioned bus station with 19 passengers on board, heading to Phuket. As they approached Klangdong, the bus attendant informed him of the passenger in labour. He promptly pulled over to the roadside, allowing the nurses to assist in the delivery.
Once the situation was under control and the mother and baby were safe, the bus continued its journey to Phuket, reported KhaoSod.
