Tragic road accident in Trat claims life, leaves one injured
A tragic road accident in Trat province led to the death of one man and left a woman injured. The incident occurred when a pickup truck lost control and collided with an electricity pole, causing it to fall and overturn the vehicle.
The 49 year old driver, Somai Saengphloi, was killed, and his 22 year old passenger, Sirikan Junmareong, was injured.
The accident occurred on Sukhumvit Road, heading out of Trat City, in front of the Sawang Boonchuay Rescue Foundation. Following the incident, the rescue team arrived at the scene to assist the victims.
The injured woman was found inside the overturned vehicle and was immediately taken to Trat Hospital for treatment. Somai, however, had been thrown from the vehicle and was found dead at the scene, reported KhaoSod.
The pickup truck, a black Toyota Hilux, with a Trat registration plate number บต 9061, was found upside down with its wheels pointing skyward. The impact of the crash also caused damage to two rescue vehicles and another civilian car that was parked near the accident scene. An additional electricity pole was also knocked down as a result of the crash.
Upon inspection, the police found an additional license plate, number บษ 2435 from Chanthaburi, and a sum of money inside the crashed vehicle. These items have been collected as evidence, and further investigation will be conducted to trace the origin of the extra license plate.
CCTV footage from the Sawang Boonchuay Rescue Foundation captured the entire incident. At approximately 10.17pm, a white Toyota pickup truck almost collided with a parked rescue vehicle due to the slippery road conditions caused by the rain.
Fortunately, the driver managed to stop in time. At around 11.18pm, the black Toyota Hilux, driven at high speed, lost control, spun, and crashed into the electricity pole, causing the vehicle to overturn.
As of 1.10am, Trat Hospital reported the unfortunate passing of Somai Saengphloi, the 49 year old driver of the crashed vehicle.
The story serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving in adverse weather conditions, and the importance of maintaining control of one’s vehicle at all times. The local authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially during periods of heavy rain, to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
