TikTok star arrested at Bangkok airport for operating online gambling
Police arrested a Thai TikTok star at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok yesterday, after discovering she was operating a gambling website with over 4 billion baht in circulation.
Officers from the Special Operation Unit for the Prevention and Suppression of Digital Crimes from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) arrested a 29 year old Thai woman named Chutima, also known as Soda on the TikTok app, for her gambling website called Zigma911.
Zigma911 was advertised on multiple social media platforms, offering various gambling games such as baccarat, slots, lottery, and sports betting. The website’s main bank account had over 4 billion baht in circulation.
Soda’s financial transactions were found to be connected with the gambling site. This corresponded to her luxurious lifestyle and designer brand items she showed on her TikTok account, ZaDo ZoDa. Her lifestyle drew nearly 100,000 followers to her account but it was closed after her arrest.
Officers arrested Soda at Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday as she was about to travel to Laos. She was charged with violating the Computer, Gambling, and Money Laundering Acts. Details of the charges and punishment have not yet been made public.
Following Soda’s arrest, police raided six locations in the Isaan province of Nakhon Ratchasima where the administrators of the gambling website were working. Multiple computers and tools used to operate the illegal website were seized, and 20 more arrest warrants were issued for other relevant suspects.
Further investigation into the case led to the arrest of a Thai man named Phayak, also known as Archae, in Pattaya. Phayak was found managing the gambling website with Soda.
In a related report, another Thai TikToker, 34 year old Phusanisa, was arrested two weeks ago for advertising a gambling website on her social media accounts. She was famous for her sexy and humorous content on her TikTok account and used her reputation to advertise illegal gambling.
Another similar story was reported in May when an OnlyFans content creator, Lalada, was arrested at her condominium after inviting her followers to an online gambling website by adding the illegal website’s IDs and links to her social media posts.
