A Thai mother in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok is seeking justice after her son-in-law physically assaulted her when she tried to protect her daughter from abuse by his mistress. The daughter did not support her injured mother.

The 43 year old victim, Aoonruen Tochomboon, shared her distressing story with the non-profit organisation Saimai Survive on September 30. She said that while the physical assault did not hurt her much, her daughter’s indifference hurt her deeply.

Aoonruen explained that her youngest daughter married her husband three years ago and they had two children together. Her son-in-law later cheated on her daughter and his mistress came to their rented room to physically assault her daughter.

Aoonruen received a call from her daughter, who said she could no longer bear living with her husband. Concerned, Aoonruen rushed to their home the next day but found it empty.

A relative of her son-in-law informed her that the couple was not at home. Enraged, Aoonruen confronted the relative, questioning why they had allowed the violence to occur within the family.

Amid the argument, her son-in-law suddenly emerged from a hiding place. The relative had lied to her; the man had been in the room the entire time, although her daughter was not there.

According to Aoonruen, the son-in-law then threw a motorcycle helmet and shoes at her. She decided to leave on her motorcycle, but her son-in-law followed her and suddenly punched her in the face, inflicting a wound above her right eyebrow and causing her to crash.

Aoonruen shared the incident with her daughter, but instead of comforting her, her daughter accused her of interfering in her personal matters.

“Why are you interfering, mother? I’m about to reconcile with my husband!”

Aoonruen said she was deeply hurt by her daughter’s words. She decided to pursue justice on her own by reporting the matter to Chaiyaphruek Police Station in Nonthaburi. However, the case went nowhere.

Aoonruen believes that the police did not act because her son-in-law has connections with a powerful figure in the area. As a result, she reached out to Saimai Survive, hoping to bring the attacker to justice.

Saimai Survive has not yet provided an update on the case and has not disclosed its working processes to the public.
