An extravagant vacation home infested with worms, rats and cockroaches, turned one family’s dream holiday in Pattaya into a nightmare.

A Thai woman paid 47,000 baht for 2 nights’ accommodation at an 8-bedroom luxury villa in the Palm Spring Housing area of Pattaya but the stay turned into a disaster from the moment the family crossed the threshold.

Primnapaphas Aite says the holiday break was frightening and still gives her goosebumps.

“I felt something weird when I first stepped into the house. There were cockroaches near the swimming pool and inside the second-floor bathroom, and there was water leaking from an air conditioner. In the evening we saw a rat running around the swimming pool.”

Primnapaphas contacted the maid and the villa’s owner, who promised to clean the house the next day.

The maid put a cloth over a pipe hole to prevent any cockroaches or rats coming through but it didn’t solve the problem. More cockroaches found other ways into the property.

Primnapaphas recorded the experience on Facebook, together with pictures and videos, because she got no satisfaction when she complained.

After the post went viral, the agent who rented the villa to the family contacted Primnapaphas offering her a 3,000 baht discount if she removed the review post. Primnapaphas refused. She says no one apologised for what had happened, so she wanted other people know about her experience.

The 38 year old housemaid, Anisa Tamsisaeng, says she tried to get rid of all cockroaches by using insecticide, but it didn’t work, and more cockroaches ran out. She apologised to the family and says the house owner has hired a pest control company to clean the whole house to avoid any similar scenarios.
