Thai family of 3 escape safely after roof collapse due to termites

A family of three fled their home in the eastern province of Rayong this week after their roof collapsed due to termite damage.
Rescuers from the Sawang Phonkusol Rayong Foundation rushed to the scene at a house in Soi Koh Kloy 5, in Rayong’s Mueang district, on Tuesday, March 4, to investigate the collapse. The homeowner, along with her husband and child, were outside the house and unharmed.
The roof reportedly collapsed in the middle of the house, leaving a damaged iron structure and tiles scattered inside.
The homeowner, Chutimaporn, told rescuers that she had been in the hallway with her child, while her husband was in their bedroom when the incident occurred.
Chutimaporn and her child managed to run to safety, but her husband was initially trapped in the bedroom. He eventually found a way out by climbing through the window.

Chutimaporn explained that termites were the cause of the collapse. The roof structure had been infested for some time, and she had already contacted a team of technicians to address the issue, but her appointment had not yet arrived.
The family stated that they would move in with relatives until the house was repaired. Chutimaporn planned to remove the entire roof structure and tiles and construct a new one to prevent further damage and future termite infestations.

She also issued a warning to others.
“Do not underestimate the danger if your home is attacked by termites. Solve the problem as soon as possible because termites are more destructive than you might imagine.”

Two weeks ago, a 75 year old Thai woman, her three grandchildren, and their pet dogs safely escaped from a house collapse in the central province of Ayutthaya. The two-storey wooden house came crashing down due to heavy rain in the early hours of the morning.
The elderly woman expressed her shock and disappointment to the media, stating that her home had been built only 12 years ago.
