Bangkok ranks No. 6 among world’s friendliest cities for expats

Bangkok has been named one of the world’s most expat-friendly cities, securing 6th place in the annual survey conducted by InterNations.
While Malaga, Spain, clinched the top spot as the most welcoming city for expatriates, Bangkok’s high ranking highlights the city’s growing appeal to foreigners.
According to the survey, expats in Bangkok reported feeling very welcomed by locals, with 67% of respondents stating that making friends was relatively easy.
The city’s vibrant social scene, rich cultural history, and thriving job market continue to make it a top choice for expatriates seeking new opportunities abroad.
The survey gathered feedback from expats around the globe, asking them about their experiences with local friendliness, making friends, and finding a support network.
In Bangkok, many expats praised the warmth and hospitality of Thai people, a sentiment that resonated strongly with those looking to establish roots in the city.

Meanwhile, Malaga topped the list, with over 84% of expats in the sunny Spanish city agreeing that locals were friendly.
Mexico City followed closely behind, confirming that Latin America remains a popular destination for expatriates seeking both warmth and an easy-going lifestyle.

While Bangkok ranked highly, the survey also spotlighted some of the least expat-friendly cities, including several in Germany.
Munich, Hamburg, and Berlin were at the bottom of the list, with expats reporting difficulty making friends and adjusting to the local culture.

With its unique blend of modern amenities, cultural richness, and warm locals, Bangkok continues to be a favourite for expats, offering a welcoming environment for newcomers seeking to experience life in Thailand, reported Daily News and Daily Mail.
In a separate survey, Bangkok reaffirmed its status as a culinary hub, claiming second place in Time Out’s 2025 ranking of the world’s best food cities, just behind New Orleans. The Thai capital continues to entice food enthusiasts with its unique combination of affordability, flavour, and convenience.
According to Time Out’s survey, 86% of locals rated the city’s food scene as “good” or “amazing,” praising its delicious, fast, and diverse offerings.
Bangkok’s renowned street food culture, offering everything from aromatic noodles to spicy som tam (papaya salad), played a key role in securing its impressive position.
