Member of a Phuket gang arrested after attempted murder
Police have arrested 18 year old Pisut ‘Jojo’ Pohthong with a gun that he possesses illegally (a hand-made ‘Pradit’) and seven .38 bullets, in a house on Srisutat Road in Rassada.
This arrest follows an incident that happened on January 1 when Jojo’s gang opened fire on the rival gang at the Queen Sirikit’s 72nd Anniversary Chalerm Prakiat Park (Dragon Park) in Phuket Town, resulting in one critical injury. The injured man was the son of a local police officer.
Police found 24 cartridges at the scene and after checking the CCTV camera footage as well as investigating the witnesses, police were able to track down the shooters.
Jojo told the police during questioning that his group made lots of noise by revving the motorcycle engine loudly and the opposite group shouted at them trying to chase them away. His friends told them to ‘wait right there’ and that they would be back. They went to collect their guns and opened fire. He said that he only shot into the sky but alleges that his friends shot people in the group before fleeing.
He’s only confessed to possessing a gun illegally and possessing a gun in public but has denied the attempted murder charge.
