A Chon Buri man claims he shot and killed his stepson in a fit of rage over his loud music. The stepfather, 58 year old Dairat Saelim, shot his stepson 36 year old Prasert Santalulai in the chest and right arm, killing him on the spot in their front yard in the Bor Thong district.

Dairat told police that he had raised Prasert since he was one year old, and he loved him “like my son.” He said, however, that they often quarrelled over Prasert’s loud music. Dairat said he had been consumed with anger when he shot Prasert after he refused to lower the volume.

“I was carried away. He mocked me and provoked me to shoot him after I tried to tell him to lower his music because I wanted to sleep.”

Dairat said that his wife usually broke up their fights, but at the time, she was not there. Dairat’s wife, Boonma, said she had been sleeping over at her sister’s house nearby when she heard the gunshot. Dairat shouted for her to come, and she arrived to find her son dead. The stepfather has now been charged with homicide using a firearm.
