Russian tourist leaps from fourth floor at Suvarnabhumi
A Russian tourist was fatally injured after clambering over a glass wall on the fourth floor of the passenger terminal at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, and jumped.
Royal Thai Police deputy spokesman Pol Col Kritsana Patanacharoen says 44 year old Mikhail Sinitsyn, anded on the second floor after intentionally jumping at 1am yesterday morning.
The man was rushed to Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.
The man had just arrived on a flight from Vietnam. After being processed for a tourist visa at the immigration counter, he walked to the fourth floor, climbed on to a public telephone next to the glass wall and jumped over it.
The glass wall has been installed there following several cases of foreign tourists committing suicide at the spot. Kritsana said police did not know the reason for the apparent suicide but would conduct a further investigation. He said the Russian embassy has been informed of the incident.
The position where the man jumped has become a popular location for people wishing to harm themselves. Airport officials say they will review security and access to the area.
