Chacheongsao rubber plantation fire under control after 15 hours
A huge fire, which had already destroyed more than half of a 400 rai rubber plantation in Chacheongsao province, was finally brought under control at 1.30pm yesterday.
The deputy provincial governor Prasong Khongkhaoroptham said the fire had raised worries of adding to Bangkok’s air-pollution woes. Chacheongsao province is directly to the east of the Thai capital.
Investigation into the cause of the fire in Sanam Chai Khet district is underway, he said.
The fire had begun at around 10pm on Saturday night and damaged some 231 rai of land before it was brought under control.
Prasong had earlier called an urgent meeting with the local district chief Waraporn Siriwong and related agencies to find out measures to contain the situation as they feared the huge blaze may complicate the air-pollution situation in Greater Bangkok.
