Thailand welcomes 8.5 million foreign tourists so far this year

Thailand welcomed over 8.5 million foreign tourists in the first four months of 2023, generating revenue of 353 billion baht, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Government spokesperson Anucha Buraphachaisri revealed today that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was delighted to hear about the strong recovery of Thailand’s tourism sector from January to April.

In total, 8,596,452 foreign tourists arrived in Thailand between January 1-April 30, 2023, generating 353.331 billion baht in tourism revenue.

It is expected that more than 520,000 foreign tourists will arrive in Thailand in early May (May 1 – 7) thanks to the long Labour Day holidays in China, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

“The Prime Minister appreciates the work of all relevant agencies. The number of foreign tourists arriving in Thailand is continuously rising as a result of the dedication of all sectors in their cooperation to revitalise the Thai tourism sector.

“It also reflects that tourists still trust and choose Thailand as a popular destination. Thailand has potential in many areas: nature, tourism, sports, and health.

“All agencies should prepare, facilitate and take care of tourists in a safe, impressive, and meaningful way. I believe we can lift the tourism industry and allow it to fulfill its potential.”

This year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting tourism to foreigners under the campaign “Visit Thailand Year 2023: Amazing New Chapters,” which aims to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in Thailand, focusing on meaningful travel experiences.

Last year, 11.15 million foreign arrivals were recorded in Thailand, exceeding the TAT’s target of 10 million tourists. This year, the TAT expects 25 million foreign visitors.
