Flight traffic is growing in the post-pandemic era, and now Bangkok Airways has announced the resumption of flights to nearby international destinations Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar. Thailand’s boutique airline will resume service in August and September to Da Nang, Siem Reap, and Yangon.

Direct daily flights between Bangkok and Siem Reap, the Cambodian tourism mecca and home to the world’s largest religious complex Angkor Wat, will launch again on August 1. Flights to the former capital of former Burma, Yangon (nee Rangoon) will also resume on August 1 despite the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar since the military junta overthrew the government last February.

Bangkok Airways will then resume flight service to the former French colonial port of Da Nang, a coastal beach destination in central Vietnam. Direct flights will start again on September 1.

All three new flight routes will fly in and out of Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, with the Burmese and Vietnamese flights being run on Airbus A320 planes and the Cambodian route running an ATR72-600.

Outbound tourism operators have been looking to grow the short-haul outbound tourism sector in neighbouring countries like Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Malaysia where travel can still be affordable and service interruptions would likely be less detrimental than further away destinations. The president of Bangkok Airways hailed the relaunch as a boon to Thai tourism.

“The soon-to-resume flights between Bangkok and Siem Reap, Yangon and Da Nang are anticipated to boost Thailand’s tourism as well as tourism in our neighbouring countries.”

Bangkok Airways relaunched flights to the Maldives this month, following a resumption of service between Thailand and Cambodia’s capital Bangkok and Phnom Penh in December of last year and the early relaunching of flights from tourism island Koh Samui to Singapore last August.
