Fake Line Man caught in gold ‘heist’ situation by sharp-eyed bikers
A man disguised as a Line Man delivery driver attempted to rob a gold shop in Samut Sakhon but was captured by vigilant motorcycle taxi drivers before he could escape.
The robbery occurred at the Bangkok Golds shop located in the Lotus Mahachai 2 branch in Maha Chai subdistrict, Mueang Samut Sakhon district, Samut Sakhon province. The suspect, a tall man, was dressed in a Line Man jacket, a white helmet, gloves, and black trousers.
He jumped over the glass counter at the front of the shop and seized gold necklaces from the display behind three female employees.
The thief managed to grab 84 gold necklaces, weighing a total of 205 baht. He then fled the scene by jumping back over the counter and running out the way he came in.
After the incident, the Narasingh Radio Centre of the Mueang Samut Sakhon Provincial Police Station was alerted and promptly dispatched officers to apprehend the suspect. However, before the suspect could leave the front of the Lotus Mahachai 2 branch, he was apprehended by a group of three to four motorcycle taxi drivers.
The good Samaritans restrained the suspect and handed him over, along with the stolen gold, to the arriving police officers, including Police Colonel Woraphon Yingcharoen, Deputy Commander of Samut Sakhon Provincial Police, and Police Colonel Pichetpong Jangkhayakom, Chief of Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station, as well as the investigative team.
Upon initial inspection, the suspect, later identified as 24 year old Kampan Srihasuk, from Uthai Thani Province, was found carrying all the stolen gold necklaces in his bag. Additionally, police discovered a folding knife, a fake gun, and two handmade explosives.
Gold robbery
The suspect’s getaway motorcycle was also found, spray-painted white and without a license plate. It was further revealed that the suspect had prepared metal spikes to scatter on the road in case of a chase.
When questioned by the police, Kampan refused to provide any information regarding the motive behind the robbery and appeared disoriented. The police then took him to the gold shop for identification by the staff before proceeding with further questioning at the Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station, reported KhaoSod.
One of the motorcycle taxi drivers recounted the events.
“I was about to ride home when I saw the suspect running out with people chasing him. The suspect then tried to get on a motorcycle near where I was standing.
“I decided to crash my motorcycle into his, causing him to fall. He continued to run, but then other motorcycle taxi drivers joined in the chase. One of them kicked the suspect into a canal, and when he tried to climb out, the others managed to capture him before the police arrived.”
