If you’ve been wondering, “Is blockchain dead?” Let us put that to rest: no, blockchain is here to stay. While the craze may have died down, blockchain technology is only getting bigger as its potential for real-world use continues to expand. And the arrival of SynergyLabs, Thailand’s official Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) Hub, exemplifies this continued progress. The company is paving the way for groundbreaking developments in blockchain and AI technologies within the Kingdom

Let’s take a closer look at what makes ICP unique, the mission and vision of SynergyLabs as the official ICP Hub in Thailand, and their innovative Accelerator Programme.

What is ICP, and what sets it apart?

ICP is a blockchain network that combines threshold cryptography, state machine replication, and a novel consensus algorithm. It brings a new way to host software and services on the internet. Jacques Democrate, the co-founder of SynergyLabs Thailand, describes ICP’s technology as “alien tech,” a nod to its groundbreaking and futuristic capabilities.

Unlike the traditional centralised servers, clouds, and databases provided by companies like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, ICP offers a fully decentralised and independent storage solution. This means all data remains on the blockchain. The decentralised approach also extends to its governance model. Through a DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organization), ICP gives users an opportunity to vote on proposals. Therefore, users have a direct voice in the protocol’s development and evolution.

The inner workings of ICP rely on sophisticated cryptographic methods known as chain-key cryptography for secure and scalable operation. Moreover, ICP uses canisters as secure code units that act like standalone applications or features. These canisters enable users to engage with decentralised applications (Dapps) directly via web browsers for a seamless on-chain experience.

For developers, ICP offers a grant programme that includes community and developer grants. This programme aims to support developers in their projects and initiatives. Each country has a hub dedicated to facilitating access to these grants and providing assistance to developers applying for funding.

What is SynergyLabs’ mission as Thailand’s ICP Hub?

SynergyLabs’ mission is clear: to educate and empower individuals and businesses. One of their core activities is educational outreach. Jacques Democrate and his team have travelled around Thailand, including 16 universities in Bangkok, to teach students about blockchain, VR metaverses, and the practical applications of ICP. Recently, they partnered with Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU) in Isan to increase awareness of ICP.

Through these efforts, SynergyLabs is demystifying blockchain technology and equipping the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in a digital future.

Building a strong and engaged community

Jacques Democrate explains that a strong community is essential for the success and sustainability of the blockchain ecosystem. According to him, if you have a group of loyal supporters, they will bring more people in, creating a vibrant and thriving environment. “It’s like running a nightclub,” he says. “Without a community, there’s no life.”

What is the accelerator programme?

In line with their goals to educate and empower people in Thailand, SynergyLabs offer an accelerator programme. The ICP Accelerator Programme 2024 facilitates support for projects at various stages of development. It provides insights into conducting business, marketing strategies, and financial planning within the Web3 environment.

The programme is divided into two phases. The first phase is the Foundation Phase, which includes a series of educational sessions, strategic planning workshops, pitching opportunities, and mentorship support. Participants will also have access to key milestones to track progress and receive valuable insights on business conduct and marketing strategies. Moreover, selected projects have the chance to secure grants ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 for building Minimum Viable Products (MVPs).

The second phase is Scaling and Market Entry. This is when successful projects are listed on the Accelerator Program Platform, which exposes them to the broader Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) community. Additionally, this platform facilitates SNS-backed token launches for these projects.

Whether you’re a developer, an entrepreneur, or simply curious about blockchain, SynergyLabs offers unparalleled opportunities to learn, grow, and innovate.

To learn more about SynergyLabs and get involved in their initiatives, be sure to visit their website, follow them on X (formerly Twitter) and stay tuned for their upcoming events. The new era of the internet  has begun—now is the time to join it!
