The Bank of Thailand (BOT) has officially announced the launch of cross-border QR code payment services between Thailand and the People’s Republic of China.
Starting October 30, 2025, tourists from China can use their home payment applications Alipay, UnionPay, and WeChat Pay to scan Thai QR codes to pay for goods and services at merchants in Thailand.
This instant retail payment system connection aims to facilitate trade, investment, and particularly tourism, which is crucial for the cooperation between the two countries. In 2024, tourist traffic between Thailand and China reached 8.8 million people.
The project is a collaboration between several key parties, including National ITMX Co., Ltd., the three major Chinese payment service providers, and the designated settlement banks: Bangkok Bank and Krungthai Bank.

In the initial phase, the service will be available through five Thai banks
- Bangkok Bank
- Krungthai Bank
- Kasikornbank
- ICBC (Thai)
- Siam Commercial Bank
The BOT stated that more banks will join the service in the next phase.
The central bank emphasized the importance of payment connectivity in providing convenience for the public and creating trade opportunities for businesses at a reasonable cost. Thailand has now expanded similar payment collaborations to nine countries, supporting regional economic growth.
