Suspects flee after fatally shooting woman during New York City burglary

A burglar fatally shot a 57-year-old woman in her New York City apartment building on Monday, authorities reported.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. on Market Street in the Lower East Side. The New York Police Department confirmed the event on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, Ying Zhu Liu, was 57 years old. The NYPD revealed that Liu’s husband had been followed to their eighth-floor apartment shortly before the tragic incident.

Two individuals attempted to rob Liu’s husband when Liu emerged from the apartment to investigate. Their 32-year-old son also came into the hallway.

Liu was shot twice in the face. The suspects then took the husband’s mobile phone and fled.

Police found Liu with a gunshot wound to the head, unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services arrived and declared her dead at the scene.
