In a media release on September 10, Sony highlighted that the PS5 Pro was designed with dedicated gamers and developers in mind, addressing the demand for higher fidelity graphics and smoother frame rates at 60 FPS. It aims to achieves these goals with enhanced GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven upscaling.

The PS5 Pro will be available on November 7, just eight weeks away. However, the price tag has sparked controversy among gaming enthusiasts. The original PS5 launched at $499.99, with the digital edition priced at $399.99. The new PS5 Pro will cost $699.99, which many find steep.

Reactions on social media reflect widespread discontent. “Hell nah bro way too expensive that’s insane,” one user tweeted. Another commented, “$700 in this economy is diabolical.”

A third person noted, “Not enough games on the platform to warrant this price.” Some have even called it a ‘rip off,’ opting to wait for the PlayStation 6 instead.

Those planning to wait for the PS6 will need to be patient, as it’s not expected until around 2027. Documents released over the summer indicated that Microsoft had agreed to keep Activision’s games on PlayStation only until 2027, hinting that the PS6 might be the last console to feature titles like Call of Duty.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, completed in October 2023, was the largest deal in gaming history.

Sony has yet to comment on the backlash regarding pricing.
