Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand delayed over logo issues

Patent rejection delays Meghan Markle's lifestyle brand launch

Meghan Markle faces new obstacles in launching her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. The Duchess of Sussex had intended to debut her venture early next year, in tandem with a Netflix series tied to the project.

However, the endeavour hit a snag due to an issue with the company’s logo. The US Patent and Trademark Office identified an “inconsistent” element in the brand’s design, leading to the rejection of Meghan’s recent application and delaying her Hollywood ambitions.

The issue centres on the ‘O’ in the logo. Officials noted that the “description is inconsistent with the mark on the drawing,” necessitating a revision from Meghan and her team.

The official document from the US Patent and Trademark Office stated, “Descriptions must be accurate and identify only those literal and design elements appearing in the mark.”

According to The Mirror US, the document elaborated, “The current mark description indicates that the letter ‘O’ appears in the mark. However, the letter is now clearly visible or highly stylized that it is unrecognizable as a letter. Furthermore, the description is incomplete because it does not describe all the elements in the mark.”

The document suggested necessary adjustments: “The mark consists of a double lined octagon enclosing the stylized and overlapping letters ‘AR’ and incorporating decorative and looping lines. The latter ‘A’ contains a stylized flower at the top of the letter.”

Meghan has also faced additional complications with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Her previous trademark application was rejected due to the office’s prohibition on trademarking geographic locations.

American Riviera, named after the Montecito area where Meghan and Prince Harry live, may undergo a name change. An insider suggested that Meghan’s team is brainstorming alternative names.

The source indicated Meghan might follow Kim Kardashian’s example and rename her business after the launch. “The team are thinking of backups just in case,” they told The Express.

They added, “They’ve been put into a bit of a last-minute spin but they’re not too worried because they know that Kim K also changed her brand name after launch and it still did amazingly well.”

Meghan Markle reportedly felt “humiliated” after Kris Jenner allegedly snubbed her, according to claims in Closer Magazine. An insider revealed, “Kris has a lot on her plate, but ultimately people can’t help but wonder if she’s dropped them because she’s seen the disastrous opinion polls on the Sussexes.”

The source further commented, “No doubt Harry and Meghan felt they were lowering their standards a little by associating with the Kardashians, so being rejected by them is a pretty big blow. Meghan had eventually come around to the idea and was excited to be working with the Kardashians.”
