Andaman “Sax Idol’ returns

PHUKET: Dutch-born, multi-talented saxophone player, singer, DJ and performer Gerard Cornielje made his debut in Thailand in 1995. Back then, Gerard performed as a live act at the island’s ‘hottest’ nightlife venues: Timber Hut, Titanic and the Safari Pub. Crowds went crazy as the ‘Singing Dutchie with a Backpack full of Sex Appeal’ took the stage.
Given his immediate success, Gerard was quickly picked up as a full-time performer by the Holiday Inn on Patong Beach in 1997. He continued to put on shows there until 2004.
The Dutchman picked up the saxophone in 1975 when he was just a 13-year-old kid. Since then, he has performed in more than 60 countries, including Greece, Spain, Turkey, Morocco, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the United States, Britain and Saudi Arabia. Gerard also shared floor space on stage with big stars such as Tina Turner, INXS and Robbie Williams, as well as popular DJs Carl Cox and Sven Vath.
Now, the virtuous Sax Idol is back in Thailand and will have music lovers asking for more at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Khao Lak. There, he has recently been appointed as the resort’s entertainment manager, with a focus on ‘Sunset Sax’ live performances right on the beach, as well as performances at the resort-owned ‘Za Bar’ and the Mediterranean restaurant ‘Olive’. Gerard will also be hosting wedding ceremonies at the resort.
To ensure you get to meet the Sax Idol in the flesh, while enjoying selected drinks and delicious food prepared by international chefs, call 076-584 888 and ask for Gerard’s daily schedule. Performance venues are chosen anew every day to take into account special events provided by the JW resort and, of course, Mother Nature (the weather).
