Phuket bomb fears disarmed by wet clothes

PHUKET: Fears that an abandoned bag might contain a bomb sent an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and Wichit Police racing to Sriphuwanart Public Park on Pattana Thongthin Road in Wichit on Tuesday evening.

“Wichit Police informed us that they had received a call from locals who had seen a bag that looked like a bomb, so we immediately went to the scene,” Lt Prachpong Keawkamjan, head of the Phuket EOD, told Phuket Gazette yesterday.

However, the team quickly discovered that the bag contained only wet clothes.

“I understand that people were panicked and afraid that the bag was a bomb due to the recent news about the bomb incident in Samui [story here],” Lt Prachpong said.

“However, please keep in mind to fact check before sharing such news on social media, as this kind of news can frighten people and create a huge panic.

“We will do our best to take care of public security, and please feel safe to visit and exercise at the park as normal.”
