Robert De Niro becomes a father again at 79
Legendary actor Robert De Niro, 79 years old, recently shared in an interview that he has become a father for the seventh time. The well-known “Raging Bull” star corrected an interviewer who believed he had six children, telling her it was “seven, now.”
De Niro did not disclose further details about the baby’s gender or the mother’s identity during the ET Canada interview. However, his publicist confirmed the news to the press.
The revered actor has two children with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, who appeared alongside him in the film “Taxi Driver.” He also has two children with socialite Grace Hightower, whom he separated from in 2018. De Niro also had twin sons during his relationship with model Toukie Smith in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
De Niro is promoting his new comedy film, “About My Father,” set to be released in US cinemas on May 26. Widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation, he secured two Academy Awards by the time he was 40 years old.
His first Oscar win, for best supporting actor, came in 1974’s “The Godfather Part II,” followed by another win in 1981 for his iconic leading role as boxer Jake LaMotta in “Raging Bull.”
In his later career, De Niro has pursued more light-hearted and family-friendly roles, finding success with films such as “Meet the Parents” alongside Ben Stiller and “The Big Wedding” with Diane Keaton. However, these choices have not always resulted in critical acclaim.
De Niro joins an established list of Hollywood and entertainment stars who have become fathers again later in life. Some notable examples include George Lucas, who became a father at 69 years old, and Charlie Chaplin and Mick Jagger, who both welcomed children at 73 years old.
